Jack nodded slowly, "Alright, I'll be right outside..." he stood and left the room. Waiting patiently outside, he realised she was absolutely right, they had to leave.
~~
As Victoria sat down in front of the mirror, a dark figure emerged behind her, tutting, with a supercilious smile on his face. "Here we are again, in the depths of vanity."
He shook his head, "You and that pretty little face of your's..." and in an instant, he had come forward and smashed the mirror with a clenched fist. He grabbed her forcefully and laughed as the young princess screamed in pain, the little shards had cut into her. With a sharp piece in his own hand, he yanked her head back and whispered, "...you make me sick." Slowly, agonizingly, he cut across her cheek with a smile on his face. He licked the blood trickling from the wound and as she tried desperately to get away from him, he forced her arm back. An excruciating crack was heard as the bone fractured. He sneered at her, "I will break every bone in your body, and you'll live until the very end of it. You'll feel every ounce of pain before you breathe your last breath."
~~
Hearing the cries of pain, Jack pounded at the door, and after some difficulty, crashed through the door and found Victoria on the floor, alone. She was clutching her arm in pain, there were shards everywhere...and blood...
He ran to her and held her gently, "Victoria what the hell happened?" He touched her face, the blood welling from the cuts. "Who did this? Victoria?"

Sobbing and shaking, Victoria cradled her arm and shook her head... "It was...it...he was in the mirror....I-I-I don't know...my arm..." she trailed off into more tears and looked at him... "My face?" she lisped through her cries..."Oh Jack..."
~~
Will had nearly reached Evelyn's rooms. He was considering turning back, as what he wanted to say sounded rather ridiculous in his head...let alone it ever escaping out of his mouth...

"Shh, it's alright, it's nothing Victoria..." he embraced her gently, then helped her up, he didn't want to frighten her. The cuts would heal, but her arm seemed to be quite hurt, it was probably broken. "Come on, we need to get that arm of your's dealt with." He frowned, and had an awful feeling that he knew exactly who she was talking about.
~~
Rory was getting ready to leave and Evelyn said she'd go see the King to at least bid farewell. Evelyn opened the door and saw William. She shut the door behind her and said quietly, "What is it?" She didn't want Rory to hear them.

Will blinked. "I came to see you." He didn't say much else for a few moments. Then he began. "There is not much point in asking how you are, because I know none of us are allright. I think we need to leave here. I came to you...because I don't know what else to do, and of course, you know I adore you." He sighed and continued, "But still...I just wanted to speak to you about this, and decide where we are going next..."
~~
Victoria calmed down and merely sniffed and snuffled as she perched on the bed, trying with her one good arm to get the top of her dress off so she might see the damage herself. She caught a glimpse of herself in the tiny shards of glass littered on the floor and gave another little cry of anguish.

Frowning, Evelyn looked down for a moment. She looked at him, quite softly, "That's very sweet William, and I thank you for everythin' you've done for me...last night..." she trailed off, not being able to speak about it, "Look...yer a decent lad, a handsome young lord, but...but there isn't a 'we'. I'm with Rory, you know that, and even so...yer too good for me. It wouldn't work between us."
~~
Jack comforted her as best he could. He couldn't bear seeing her in such a state. He had called for medical help, and Charles' surgeon Dr. Wiseman immediately made his way to the duchess' quarters.

Glancing at the ground, Will looked at her seriously... "I didn't mean we like that. I hoped by now you would realise 'we' meant us, as members of the same crew? If you'll have me."
~~
Upon arriving, the Doctor gasped at first, and then tended to Victoria's wounds gently. Underneath the blood, they discovered the scratches were just very small, apart from the one on her cheek. He bit his lip and stopped himself from asking how it happened. He confirmed her arm was broken, and bandaged it up as best as he could. "You'll do well to rest, your Grace, and I trust Captain Sparrow here will look after you." He gave the pirate a steely stare before sweeping out of the room. Victoria only nodded and propped herself against the soft pillows, still snuffling.

Jack looked at her and frowned deeply, "We're leaving. Right now." he propped her up and took her into his arms. "I'm not letting you stay here any longer..." He took her out of the room and headed for the nearest exit. He'd take her to the Pearl and sail away with her.
~~
Evelyn nodded a little, "My mistake." she looked away for a moment and sighed. "Well, I was just headin' to see Charles, Rory and I are leavin'. Yer welcome to come along...if you want." She walked passed him and headed to the King's quarters. She knocked on the door, not quite sure what she'd say.

A guard answered the door... "Lady O'Malley, Your Highness..." he called into the gloomy room... "Oh. Send her in..." Charles' voice resonated outwards and the door was opened. The King was seated at a desk, alone apart from the guard and another sentry. He seemed to be doing paperwork, and looked deeply troubled, though his face brightened somewhat as Evelyn entered... "Ah my dear Evelyn...I'm so sorry our spectacular ball for you was ruined by some ruffians....your song was most entertaining!" He beamed at her and stood to greet her... "As was your greeting to Sir Henry Morgan..." His black eyes twinkled with amusement, and yet were melancholy at the same time...
~~
Victoria had been still for only a few moments when she spoke quietly to Jack... "I have to see Charles..." she muttered, "I must tell him I am leaving Whitehall...I shall tell him I am going to my lands in France to retire from this....madness." She touched her face gently, sadly...

Evelyn scratched her brow, avoiding his gaze. "Yes I..." she didn't want to speak about Henry at all, she looked up at him and choked. There was a momentary pause before she said, "I'm leaving, Charles." She looked at him for a moment then went on, "Things have happened and I have to leave, I'll...write to you, or something..." she trailed off.
~~
Jack nodded, "Alright, alright, I'll take you to see him first, but then we're leaving for..." he winced a little, where would they go? Anywhere. Anywhere but here. "...well, wherever you like..." he smiled at her encouragingly.

Charles blinked once or twice at her... "I didn't expect you to stay long..." he answered her, "And you don't have to write to me...all I can say is thank you for the little bit of life you brought to our palace." He sighed deeply and sat down again, then looking back at her, grinned and said "I can't say I won't miss you..." He took off his wig and ran a hand over his shaved head... "Thank you Evelyn."
~~
"Well first things first..." she stood shakily, "People will talk..." She bit her lip, then held her head high... "And we shall let them..."

Evelyn smiled sadly, "You know what Charlie, I'm gonna be missin' you too..." she leant over and gave him a gentle, lingering kiss. "If y'ever need anythin'...any help..." she stroked his head with a small smile. Then, she kissed the top of it and turned to leave. Pausing, she turned back to look at him, "Thank you, Charles."
~~
Jack held her good arm, steadying her carefully. He looked at her and smiled a little, then looked away for a moment in thought, "Victoria, don't do anything to jeopardize your standing here...don't be rash and make mistakes because of me..."

He could only smile at her as she left his rooms, though his eyes were pricked with the familiar sensation of loss and longing. He gave one last deep sigh and turned back to his paperwork...though it was not long before the guard admitted two more guests...
~~
Victoria did not answer Jack as they paced slowly down the corridor...they bumped into Evelyn as they headed towards the King's chambers, and Victoria glanced up at her hopefully, momentarily forgetting her injuries... "Evelyn...what are you doing here?" she queried, though she half knew the answer...

Evelyn halted before them, not very surprised to see them. "Oh I-...what happened to you?" she asked, seeing Victoria's cuts and bruises.
Jack interjected before Victoria could answer, "The pirates, when they smashed through the windows, Victoria got a few scratches from the shattered glass. Nothing severe. Her arm's the problem, but it'll all heal." he said quickly with a nod.
Evelyn frowned, "Oh...right I see. Well er...I'm off then, as I expect you two are as well. See you at the harbour, eh?"
Jack nodded again, "See you there...Evelyn." there was still a tinge of longing, and of upset when he saw her.
Evelyn started to walk away, but turned and called back, "Hey princess, come by the Liberty and Katrina'll look at that arm for ya, savvy?"

Victoria nodded briefly, and continued to the King's Chambers with Jack. Upon their arrival, the guard let them in at once, gasping at the wounds on the Duchess. Rolling her eyes, Victoria pushed past... "Charles..." The King span around and his mouth fell open, "Glory Be! What happened?! Did that happen last night?!" "Yes it did," answered abruptly, her tone ending all questions on the matter, "And thus, fearing for my life, I am leaving Whitehall with Evelyn, Will and Jack."
Charles gaped at her and stood up quickly, "Victoria, with respect...you are my subject, and my servant, and you are sacrificing everything. Think of your future, your prospects, your marriage?! The Dauphin is young...and there is the Spanish line..." "I have no marriages arranged Charles." She glared back at him, "And I fear that if I stay here I will be implicated in these rumours and plots that I know are stirring, these terrible things said against Catholics...your own brother and the Queen are opposed...I will not be used as some puppet by Shaftesbury or Buckingham. Do you think they will stop trying to put your bastard son on the throne?" Charles shook his head honestly. "You are right..." he replied, his voice dry with the realisation of the truth. He exhaled slowly...and looked up...
"Victoria..." the King began to speak, glancing warily at Jack by her side. "I love him." she interjected, "I love him. You know…my father fell in love with a farmer's daughter...and so it is only natural I follow in his footsteps and leave with a pirate." She smirked a little.
Charles paced the room...he looked up his dark eyes boring into Jack’s...
"Captain Sparrow...I urge you. Take the Earldom I offered you...nay...I offer you the title Duke of...of anywhere! I will give you anything you desire, wealth, power...but I beseech you...pray tell me do you love this woman in return? If not, then tell her now and she must stay here by the authority of the King, and you must leave...if you do...marry her and save her honour."

Jack's eyes bulged at the preposition. He felt his heart sink and his mouth dry up. He considered running out of the room.
"Well...I..." he noticed the frown on Victoria's face, "No, no I mean I do! I...I truly do. But...but marriage?" He paused, and continued in a solemn tone, "I can offer neither marriage nor honour." he swallowed thickly and looked at the King, "You can keep your lands, I want neither Earldom nor Dukedom, I don't want wealth or power here. All I can say is I care for Victoria deeply, I can offer her this, I can offer her freedom...and it's for her to choose..."
He turned his gaze to Victoria, knowing that she might have hoped for more, for him to utter the word love, for marriage..."I'm sorry, Victoria. I do, but this is all I can give you..."
