Victoria smiled at him kindly and shook her head at Jack. "Charles...it was cruel of you to make him say that...I would not leave with him unless I knew I would be entirely safe with him. And whether he loves me or not, I do choose freedom, with him..."
The King shook his head.
"Then I cannot stop you. I will tell the court that you have gone to France...to tend to business there. Your pensions will still be paid. All your land and titles will remain. Your children, should you have any, will still be Royal...and you will always remain in my heart cousin." He kissed her gently on the cheek and she wrapped her arms around his neck to embrace him. Charles buried his face in her shoulder. When they finished their farewell, he looked more miserable than ever...
"Are all the lovely ladies of Whitehall to leave me? You'll be taking Nelly with you I suppose?" He laughed to hide his sorrow...

Jack nodded compassionately, "Hurts don't it?" He looked at Victoria for a moment, hoping he could find the courage to tell her he loved her. Why was it so difficult? He felt red in the cheeks, feeling regret for what he had said.
He looked back at the King and offered his hand, "Looks like I'll be catchin' you later mate, or more likely the contrary..." he smiled.

Charles briefly shook his hand and smiled, as he watched the pair leave him and the palace...he could have sworn it got a little colder as the group departed...
~~
Meanwhile...Will was waiting in the courtyard outside one of the entrances, waiting with a few horses to head to the harbour...He bit his nails worriedly, having already had to flee from a very desperate Barbara Palmer, grasping for one last embrace. He shuddered at the thought, and though the pain and sickness from unrequited love in his stomach never ceased to torment him, a new hope had arisen as he began his journey as Sir William Turner, with his very own Lady Evelyn...

Evelyn arrived at the courtyard with a horse, she swiftly mounted the horse and nodded to Rory. She saw that Jack and Victoria would be taking a carriage. It wasn't a very long ride to harbour, so she didn't bother readying the horse with a saddle.
Rory cantered up to her and asked, "So, we ready to go?" He wasn't feeling particularly cheery. Evelyn was acting very distant, and he felt that he was losing her. Was she going to leave him?
Evelyn nodded quickly, "Very much so." she instructed her horse, who leapt up a little and began a brisk gallop. Rory followed beside her.
There was another following their journey. Henry Morgan set out with his horse a little behind. He couldn't bring himself to stay at the palace and let Evelyn leave. He had to fight for her.

The various groups headed towards the respective ships. Victoria was fairly tearful as she boarded the Pearl, gazing back at the disappearing outline of London.
On the Emerald Liberty...Will also stared out as his former home faded into the heavy mist that was descending as they embarked up the Thames and out to the sea. He glanced back at Evelyn at the helm a few times, and then settled himself down to cleaning his pistol, perching on the edge of the ship so he could watch the rippling waves...

Evelyn didn't even look back, though she felt sadness in leaving certain people. She turned the wheel as they sailed out into the open sea. She frowned slightly, there was a tinge of...emptiness in the sea air. There wasn't a scent of salt, that ocean mist...something seemed amiss. The skies above them darkened, clouds enclosing them.
Jorge followed his Captain's gaze and frowned in thought. Something was stirring, and it wasn't good. He also noticed the weariness in Evelyn's face, "Mon Capitan? Perhaps I take the wheel for now?"
Evelyn looked at him for a moment, then nodded, "Thanks Jorge..." She slowly walked to the side of the ship and sat down on a barrell, looking out to sea blankly.
Katrina walked to Jorge and indicated to Evelyn, "She's acting very...quiet..." Jorge shrugged, "I do not know what the problem is, but yes, she's not happy..." He sighed, "...ay ay..."
Meanwhile, Rory made his way to bed. He'd had enough for one day and needed some rest. As he drifted into a subconscious world of his own...he felt movement in the bed. He frowned and opened his eyes to see a snake, it wasn't the familiar snake on Evelyn's breast, he felt no warmth or softness, he felt a dryness, a stiff, tight, thick tanglement. His eyes widened as he realised the bed was covered in snakes, binding him and wrapping around him. His eyes began to blur as a python tightened its grip around his neck. He couldn't even shout out, he couldn't breathe...a dark sleep began to drag him away...

The dark man stood over Rory as the serpants smothererd him...pulling him further down into the darkness. He was so tempted just to kill him here and now...but he didn't think he'd ever find someone quite so suitable for the role of sloth... He laughed cruelly at the Irish man's plight.

Even in his blurred vision, Rory could see him. He began to panic...in fear of dying, in the stifling ache, the deprivation of oxygen was sending a tingle all over his body, a numbness.
At that very moment, Alex called out for him, "Hey you lazy s*d, sleeping again...?" he opened the door to find Rory stumbling off of the bed, gasping for air. No one was there, and he ran to him in confusion, "Rory? What the hell is wrong with you man?"
Rory spluttered and took in big, rapid breaths, he shook his hand, unable to speak. Was he losing his mind? There was nothing there, no man, no snakes. Nothing. As he slowly regained his natural pace of breathing, he looked at Alex's enquisitive face and shook his head, "I'm alright...just...just a bad dream..."
Alex raised his eyebrows, "Some bad dream..." he helped him up.

In an attempt to take her mind off of things, Evelyn had turned to her fiddle, singing in accompaniment, her voice was much softer, with a sweet clarity,
"I courted a sailor for six months and many, I courted a sailor, now he's far from me. I courted a sailor for six months and many, I courted a sailor, now he's far from me. On a fine summer's evening he said his heart was grieving On a fine summer's evening these words he said to me;
Oh I'm bound for the waves, the waves dearest Evie, I'm bound for the waves, the waves upon the sea. Oh I'm bound for the waves, the waves dearest Evie, I'm bound for the waves, the King calleth me.
Me heart has been your's now for six months and many, Me heart has been your's now and will always remain. Me heart has been your's now for six months and many, Me heart has been your's now and will always remain. Take with you me ring and me heart you'll always bring, Take with you me ring when you sail away to sea.
Oh I'm bound for the waves, the waves dearest Evie, I'm bound for the waves, the waves upon the sea. Oh I'm bound for the waves, the waves dearest Evie, I'm bound for the waves, the King calleth me.
I'll wait for me sailor for six months and many, I'll wait for me sailor till he comes home from sea. I'll wait for me sailor for six months and many, I'll wait for me sailor till he comes home from sea. I'll wait for you me dear, for time we'll know no fear. I'll wait for you me dear till you come home from the sea.
Oh I'm bound for the waves, the waves dearest Evie, I'm bound for the waves, the waves upon the sea. Oh I'm bound for the waves, the waves dearest Evie, I'm bound for the waves, the King calleth me.
I'll marry me sailor in six months and many, I'll marry me sailor and he'll be safe with me. I'll marry me sailor in six months and many, I'll marry me sailor no more he'll say to me
Oh I'm bound for the waves, the waves dearest Evie, I'm bound for the waves, the waves upon the sea. Oh I'm bound for the waves, the waves dearest Evie, I'm bound for the waves, the King calleth me..."
Henry stood a way away in the darkness, listening to his beloved. A sad smile was on his lips, her grief was still too near, but there was still hope...

Will listened to Evelyn's sweet voice, and even after she had finished and her song was long gone on the wind he hummed the tune to himself contentedly, finishing the work on his weapon. He looked out, deep into the mist, and his heart burned for her.
~~
Meanwhile, upon the Black Pearl, Victoria was removing her jewellry, placing it carefully on Jack's desk in his cabin. She looked down at herself, and glanced into his dirty mirror... "I don't quite think this attire is suitable anymore..." she sighed.

Helen smiled and sat beside Evelyn, joining her with a flute. Fiddle and flute, they played by memory and improvisation, old shanties, folk songs and jigs. The other musicians aboard the ship joined in, and soon the ship was filled with music. It passed the time, and certainly brightened the mood.
~~
Jack walked to the helm and nodded to Mr. Cotton, "Evenin' Mr. Cotton." The parrot replied to him and flapped its wings loudly. He could here the music from the Liberty.
He wondered where Victoria had gone. As he glanced around, he noticed something, though he couldn't quite put a finger on what it was. A threat in the air...above and below...

Will laughed as someone did a merry jig and he clapped his hands in time to the music. He was beginning to feel like a real member of the crew. As the sky darkened, he and most others forgot the sense of foreboding creeping around them like the coils of a serpant...
~~
Slipping out of her dress and corset, Victoria found a spare pair of rough trousers under Jack's bed, and a spare linen shirt. The shirt itself covered all of her modesty, and she felt suddenly thrilled to be free of the constraints of the bone lined undergarment she had worn since the age of twelve. She pulled the trousers up around her tiny waist. They promptly fell down. She gathered them up again with a tut, and glanced around for a belt of some kind.

As moods lightened, more music was played, people started to dance, particularly the traditional Irish tap which complimented the drums, and bottles of whiskey and rum were promptly brought out with various ripe fruits.
Evelyn's clouded thoughts were put away as she enjoyed the company of her crew and the entertainment of the night.
~~
Jack brought out his telescope and peered out to the horizon. His vision was limited as a fog began to shroud around the sea. There was a click as he put the telescope away and pulled at his plaited beard. "Mr. Gibbs!" he called out.

"Aye Captain?" Gibbs appeared at Jack's side in an instant, looking slightly nervous as he gazed out into their bleak surroundings..."Bad weather we're 'avin Cap'n...could be an omen...that and havin' a woman on board..." He trailed off, glancing at Jack warily...
~~
Will laughed jovially as someone fell over mid-dance as a large wave knocked the ship. He took a bottle of rum and slowly swigged on it, watching the entertainments, and watching Evelyn as she resumed her cheerful disposition...though he could not forget what had happened to her, and he could not forgive her attacker...
~~
In Calais, James Hook, Reginald DuFrain and Frederick de Bourbon sat in a private chamber of a large house that had once belonged to the old Duke of Norfolk. Hunting for those that had left Whitehall, they had decided to stop for the night and have a little fun... a vast feast of game, foul and all manner of meats, salads, wines and such was laid out before them in the magnificent room.
Several women floated around the lavish table, with a rather buxom blonde seated practically on the young Duke's lap. He tore at the leg of some animal and swigged his alcohol in between nuzzling at the giggling girl's neck and whispering to her. She was hitching up her skirts so he could see more, and he laughed raucously.
Reginald looked distinctly uncomfortable as another prostitute tried her best to seduce him. He turned away looking pensive. Hook was similarly unamused, and watched the Frederick and the women with distaste.
"You will destroy yourself you know?" spoke the older man, "With your wining, your dining and your whoring. You will corrupt yourself and your body until a man no longer remains."
The wh*re giggled at the suggestion, and Frederick only smirked, still eating a mouthful of food. He swallowed and began to retort... "At least I'm a whole man and not half of one you bloody-" but he trailed off as he saw another, darker figure appear behind the Captain. Frederick frowned, and went to take another bite of his meal when he gasped in horror. The table was alive with creatures of the foulest kind. Rats nibbled at half rotting meat. Maggots squirmed on plates. Snakes slithered in between the dishes, and toads and lizards clambered slimily over food. Frederick cried out in alarm. Reginald and James glanced at each other. They only saw the table laden with normal food. "Frederick?" Reginald said his name, concerned by his companion's wild eyes and mad stare.
"Jesus Christ!" Frederick promptly stood from the table, knocking over his chair. He stumbled, and then vomited onto the floor, splashing the prostitute near him with the liquid. She and the others shrieked and scurried out the room...but yet he still continued to spew bile from his stomach. He could hear wicked laughter ringing in his ears, and could see the vague outline of a man nearby. He felt his friend's gentle touch on his shoulder before he fainted, the bitter taste of his half-digested filth still fresh in his mouth...

"Don't be daft man!" he scoffed, "...havin' a woman on board, as if we haven't before, eh?" he looked at him for a moment before muttering, "Omen, could be aye...Gibbs, do you find anything...rather strange?" He twiddled his fingers and watched the man's blank face, "No salt in the air, salt is imporant man!" he waved his hands, "We need salt!"
~~
Evelyn took a swig of whiskey before playing again, her cheeks flushed with sudden warmth. She laughed as Katrina dragged Alex forward to dance with her. He was the most awful dancer! It amused her, his face didn't show any amusement at all.

"Salt?" Gibbs blinked a few times..."Cap'n...we have a few barrels below....but I don't see how we put that...in the air." He spoke slowly, truly believing Jack had finally lost it. Or perhaps he lost it many years ago. Or perhaps just when he picked up a Princess at Port Royal. Gibbs was unsure.
~~
Will continued to chuckle as Evelyn and the poor man danced. It was very different to the ball they had been at only a night ago...and Will smiled to himself, feeling more and more relaxed as they got further and further away from that place...
