Victoria stopped in her tracks... "We're dead?" she looked half shocked, and half amazed, almost excited... "Can we see those that we lost?" she asked quietly to Evelyn... Will looked at Jack worriedly... "I have a bad feeling about this..." he muttered.

Evelyn stopped, "Err..." she blinked, she hadn't even thought about it. "Not...not unless they've only just passed, or have unfinished business and haven't crossed over..."
Jack sighed, "Perhaps that's not too good of an idea anyway..." he considered Rory, and Victoria's father...Frederick...whoever...did they really have time, and was it even safe to consider finding them? "I mean, it just seems to me...lots of dead...a lot of them look..." he paused to find the right word, "...different..."
Evelyn looked at him, then turned away her glance. She wanted to see him...to see Rory, she had to but then...would she be able to let him go?

Victoria appealed to Evelyn...
"But what if...what if we..."
Will interrupted.
"We should keep moving before we join them and stay here forever. If our loved ones are here, they would want us to live, and not die in vain for our sins." Hook nodded in agreement. Victoria still looked at Evelyn, waiting for her response.

Evelyn swallowed hard, they were right...but..."If we see them...I...we shouldn't look for them now, it'd be too difficult to find 'em anyway." She looked at Victoria with empathy, "We'll keep movin' for now...eh?"
Jack nodded, "Sounds good to me..."
They started moving again...through the cold, strong waters of the River.

Keeping their guard up, the group moved through the water, alert and aware that the dead might attack them at any moment and try to claim their souls. Will was only a few strides behind the girls, glancing back and forth at Jack and Hook behind him. He strode on, through the icy water.
"Where to now Evelyn?" he asked, not quite sure where they would end up.

"The next precinct requires quite a bit of 'aste men, and I mean if you waddle about, y'll be swept up by a wave and go back through the currents again..." They approached a mist doorway, "Everyone ready?"
Jack was ready to sprint it. Evelyn looked at them, "Wait for my instructions, savvy?"
She walked through with caution, the doorway would protect them until they went through. The tide was low, the water only ankle deep. It was warmer here. "Go go!"

They followed her as quickly as they could. Victoria lifter her skirts as high as she could, her pale legs covered in goosebumps as she followed Evelyn. Will looked confused at first, as he noticed the low water. He took a moment to savour the warmer climate, but soon he felt the power of the waves move beneath him, and with Jack and Hook with him, they scurried across through the water, following their leader.
"How much further is it?" Victoria asked, water dripping from her locks. She wiped it out of her eyes, glancing around, hoping to glimpse...well she didn't know what. She was torn between two worlds, the living and the dead, and her desire to see those she had lost made tears sting behind her eyes.

"We're almost through, it's just...just two more..." A vortex was emerging several feet away. It then became a long spiral path. She started to run, looking back to check everyone was following. It would seem to take forever on this path, but time was deceptive, and soon they reached the currents again.
Jack looked back to see the path shrink as water starting flowing behind it and it disappeared. "Right..."

Victoria stopped and growled in frustration, dropping her skirts. Will was beside her... "Well what happens now?" he asked, running a hand through his sodden hair and plucking at his shirt which was soaked through. Victoria span around and shook her head... "This is useless..." Out of nowhere, a voice with a lilting French accent spoke... "Don't give up." Hook span around quickly, a frightened look on his face. Victoria's heart skipped a beat. "Father...?"

They all stopped in their tracks. Evelyn felt a twinge in her heart and looked away for a moment.
Jack raised his eyebrows. And then frowned as he saw an all too familiar face beside Victoria's father...

Victoria took a step back as her her brother and father stood side by side near to her. Frederick looked fairer, kinder, like a burden had been removed from his shoulders...he had lived too long with the responsibility of his family, and it had burned him up. Now he was free of all his problems, his mind no longer clouded with drink, twisted with jealousy and regret. He looked to the red headed woman near to his sister and bowed to her. Thomas gave Hook a knowing look, a look of warning. Even in death, the man had a prescence, and James physically shuddered.
Will noticed suddenly how similar the family looked, all with their dark eyes. He glanced from Victoria to Jack, to Evelyn. Then they were gone, and in their place a waterfall was thinning out to reveal a passage through into the First Precinct.

As they waded through the knee-deep river of the First Precinct, they all felt much more at ease. Evelyn sighed, "Right...we're almost through but..." she smiled uneasily, "Dunno what's waitin' on the other side like..."
They waded more slowly as they approached the very First Gate. A figure further down the river looked on, his eyes on Evelyn. Rory Doran was ready to pass through, and he knew that if he let Evelyn see him now...she'd want to take him through. And however much his heart bled to let her go, however he yearned for it, he needed to continue his journey now. But God knew...he'd be waiting for her...to one day see her again. He would continue...through the gates and beyond...to find some sort of peace.

Travelling through the First Gate was a strange experience. There was no air, and suddenly they fell with a thud onto the deck of the Black Pearl, from nowhere. Will took a deep breath. He was dry now, not dripping wet. He looked around into the concerned faces of Gibbs, Cotton, Pintel and Ragetti and the rest of the crew.
"Mary mother of God! Ye made it!" Gibbs burst into relieved laughter and the crew cheered as they saw their Captain, Victoria, Evelyn and Hook return to the living having been in the valley of the dead. The skies had cleared, though the water was still choppy and crashed against the ship.
"What happened?" Will asked, getting to his feet, feeling somewhat groggy.
"It was a maelstrom!" cried Marty, "And you were gone. Then it cleared. That....thing disappeared...and the seas were stormy...we could hear shouts, voices, screams in the air...and then it stopped...and you appeared. It's calmer now..."
"It's over." Will said finally. He turned to Evelyn, and held out a hand to her.
Victoria picked herself up and grasped the side of the ship to steady herself. Shutting her eyes, she said a final farewell to her family, who through their sacrifice had saved them all. Reginald was beside her, and she embraced him.
"Is it time to go home now?" he asked quietly... "Perhaps..." she replied.

Jack was greeted by a rough embrace from Gibbs, "We made it alright...I couldn't tell yer what on earth happened, but there were some things what need to be forgotten for now..."
He took Victoria's hand, "Are you alright, love?"
Evelyn took Will's hand and stood up, she still looked concerned. Her face was stern, but she was feeling a sudden surge of realisation of things that still are as they were.
She glanced over to her ship, "I'm done...I need to go..."

Will looked down at her. He showed no pity, just kindness. "Shall I come with you?" he enquired, waiting patiently for her reply... He knew this was difficult for her, for she had lost the man she had adored for years, and he in turn had adored her. Putting his own feelings aside, he simply wanted to be there for her if she needed him. He felt no envy...just a deep pain in his heart that he knew was entwined with her own.
Victoria turned to Jack. "I'm fine...I truly am fine." She spoke quietly, and beamed at him, pushing her tangled curls back. She looked down at the state of her garments and gave a laugh.
